BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo on Monday called for joint efforts to maintain permanent peace in the Asia-Pacific region.

The 21st century is one featuring peace, development and cooperation for the Asia-Pacific region as well as for the whole world, Dai said as he met with a group of participants of the third Core Group Meeting of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) held in Beijing.

The MSC, formerly known as the Munich Conference on Security Policy, was founded in 1962 by German publisher Ewald-Heinrich von Kleist-Schmenzin. The meeting, as an offshoot of the MSC, is intended to place the conference's work on a permanent footing and give a small, exclusive group of participants an opportunity to discuss key issues of international security policy.

The first MSC Core Group Meeting took place in Washington D.C. in the autumn of 2009, and the second was held in Moscow in the autumn of 2010.

To maintain enduring peace in the Asia-Pacific region, all parties involved should respect each other, treat each other equally, co-exist in a harmonious way and seek common prosperity, said the state councilor.

The Asia-Pacific region is different from other regions, Dai said, adding that the realities in the region should be fully considered before actions are taken.

He urged parties involved to listen to the opinions of the Asia-Pacific nations and pay attention to the nations' "comfort level."

As an Asian country, China cherishes the hard-won situation in Asia and will make joint efforts with other Asian nations to unremittingly safeguard and promote peace, stability and prosperity in Asia, he added.
